Replacing your tires when they grow too worn or damaged to do their job safely is crucial, but how do you know when it's time to replace them? Fortunately, there are a few key things you can look for when gauging the condition of your tires and determining whether it's time to invest in a new set, and our team is here to assist you!

Signs That You Should Replace Your Tires

Driving on tires that are at the end of their lifespan can be a safety hazard, so it's best to keep a close eye on your tires so that you can catch the signs that they're on their way out before they cause problems for you. Here are a few of the warning signs that you should replace your tires:

  • Old Age: Most tire manufacturers suggest replacing your tires after six years or so. Even if you don't drive that much or you keep your tires in storage, the rubber breaks down over time, which can create a safety hazard. So, if your tires are older than six years, we recommend replacing them.
  • Damage: Your tires can take damage for a variety of reasons ranging from punctures caused by running over something sharp to scalloping and bulging caused by improper wheel alignment or air pressure. If your tires show signs of damage, you could be at risk for a tire blowout, so we encourage you to get a new set. If you're not sure if the damage on your tires is serious enough to warrant tire replacement, our Lexus experts at our Chandler dealership serving Gilbert, AZ can help.
  • Tire Tread: You can check your tire tread with the Penny Test. Slide a penny headfirst in between your tire's tread. If the top of the head on the coin is visible, it means your tires are too worn and that you should replace them. Not sure if your tires have adequate tread?
